Faux Wood Finish + Child’s Table Makeover

I had been looking for a small table and chairs to add to the playroom when a friend posted one she as trying to get rid of on Facebook. It was just what I had been looking for!  I was up for the challenge of giving it the makeover it needed!

Here is how it started:

It was all one solid color. I wanted to try a faux wood painting technique, and thought that this would be their perfect project to try it.

To start, I painted the chairs and the table legs navy blue. I just used some leftover paint that I had from a previous project. Then I moved on the to tabletop. I painted it with Waverly chalk paint in Mineral.

Then I took an old chippy brush and painted with black …

… then again with some white for some extra dimension.

Next, I used dark wax all over.

I applied it all over then used a paper towel to buff it all off.

Here you can see on the right where I started buffing it off:

I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out!

Now Drew has the perfect spot to play with his puzzles and color! Not too bad for a free project! I love anything where I can use leftover materials to make something new. I also am pretty happy with this technique. I like that I can make something that doesn’t have a wood grain have a wood stained wood appearance.

What do you think?
